Brann’s Series 7 and Series 9 models, both of which are top-sellers, deliver outstanding shaving performance. So which one is best for you? Is it worth spending the extra money to upgrade to the Series 9, or is the Series 7 the right choice for most people?

Braun Series 7 Overview
The Braun Series 7 has been one of Braun’s top-selling shavers for over a decade, for a good reason. It was Braun’s flagship shaver for many years until it was replaced by their Series 9. As part of Braun’s redesign of its shaver lineup, the Series 7 underwent a massive redesign, which resulted in two very different models being marketed as the Series 7.
OUR PICK

Key Advantages
NEW DESIGN
Braun Series 7
7075cc
Key Advantages
Older models, such as the Braun Series 7 790cc, are the original design of the Series 7. They have excellent build quality, with more metal going into the shaving head and body. This design is still popular because many people prefer the build quality over the slightly more modern designs of the newer Series 7 models.
Newer Braun Series 7 models, like the Braun Series 7 7075cc, were released in 2020 along with newer Braun Series 6 and Series 8 models. The new models all have similar design language, with cleaner lines and black being the predominant color over the older silver metal models. However, in these newer models, the shaving head is completely different. It delivers good shaving performance, but with more plastic than metal, it may result in a slightly less comfortable shave.
The shaving head must now be removed to use the included attachable trimmer, which allows for a more diverse range of accessories like beard combs. Unfortunately, this tends to result in losing the attachments when traveling vs. them being built into the shaver.
When comparing the older Series 7 models with the newer ones, we prefer the older ones because they have higher build quality, a pop-up trimmer, and slightly better performance. The newer models aren’t a bad buy and are available at a lower price point, but the older ones offer a better shave for most people.

Braun Series 9 Overview
Since its release, the Braun Series 9 has been the best electric shaver on the market, giving you the best shaving performance. While some shavers may provide a closer shave, like the Panasonic Arc5, none are as comfortable as the Series 9. It comes with top-of-the-line features and is designed to last for many years.
Since its original release, the Series 9 has gone through a few upgrades. However, all models use the same shaving head and deliver the same shaving experience. The Series 9 does an excellent job of capturing the most hair with the fewest amount of passes resulting in a fast and comfortable shave.
The Braun Series 9 shaving head uses a similar design to the Braun Series 7 but includes an extra cutting element which helps to catch more hair with each pass. The Series 9 cleaning station is one of the best we have reviewed and we recommend most people to buy a model that includes the station to maximize shaving performance.

Comparison
Shaving Performance
Both the Braun Series 7 and Braun Series 9 deliver excellent shaving performance. However, the older models of the Series 7 offer a comparable shave to the Series 9, while the newer models do not provide quite as good a shave.
The Series 9 features a slightly more powerful motor that allows it to shave quicker and through thicker stubble. With the Series 9, you won’t have any trouble with stubble after two to three days, but with the Series 7, you may feel some tugging. Although neither of these shavers will provide a close shave as the Panasonic Arc5, it will be close enough for most people.

Shaving Comfort
The Braun Series 9 offers clear advantages over the Braun Series 7 for shaving comfort. Series 9 shaving heads are well known for remaining cool, even with increased speed, which helps reduce skin irritation and tugging.
Even though the older Series 7 models provided great shaving comfort, there is a considerable difference between the Braun Series 9 and the newer Series 7 models (like the Series 7 7071cc). Newer models use more plastic around the shaving head, which can cause irritation and tugging.
People with sensitive skin should limit their choices to the Braun Series 9 or older models of the Series 7.

Features & Accessories
The Braun Series 9 and Series 7 come with most of the standard features you would expect in an electric shaver. However, models ending in “cc” include clean and charge stations, which include some of the most significant differences between the two models.
The Braun Series 9 clean & charge stations feature a drying feature that ensures the shaver is ready to use immediately after a cleaning cycle. The old and new models of the Series 7 do not offer this feature. We find this to be convenient if you shave every day as putting a cold wet shaving head on your face can be uncomfortable.
They all include battery indicators, a travel case, and a trimmer. However, Braun Series 9 and old Braun Series 7 models have pop-up trimmers rather than the attachable trimmer with the new Braun Series 7.
Travel locks are included in the Braun Series 9 and newer Braun Series 7 models. This prevents the device from turning on in your luggage, whereas older models of the Series 7 do not come with this feature.
